Twalha Twaha Abass is pursuing a Masters in African Studies. He was the 2019-2020 Swahili Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) with the African Studies Program and has been actively engaged in teaching as well as outreach for the African Studies Program since arriving at IU. In 2021, he received an award for his work volunteering with Bridges: Children, Languages, World, teaching Kiswahili to children through the no-cost after-school program. Abass is the author of the novel, Kilio cha Mfamaji (The Drowner’s Cry), published in 2017.
