There are a number of degrees and certificate opportunities in African Studies that compliment a range of fields and careers and reflect the central place of Africa in today’s globally connected world. We offer three undergraduate minors and one certificate. Coming in 2026-2027 is a new BA in Global and Regional Studies which will have a major in African Studies. IUB undergraduates can also create an independent major with an Africa-concentration, pursue International Studies with a regional focus on Africa. Our graduate program includes an interdisciplinary master’s degree, and a Ph.D. minor in African Studies.
There are also twelve faculty Working Groups within African Studies, among them: Muslim Africa; Displaced Africans/Migration and Immigration; the Patrick O’Meara Southern Africa Working Group; Emerging Economies & Sustainable Systems; Non-Government Organizations; and Global Visual Cultures.
