Katie LaPadula
Director of Graduate Administrative Services, HLS
We can help you plan your degree, balance your coursework, and direct you to resources on campus and within the field of African Studies. The Director (as the DGS, or Director of Graduate Studies) is the primary advisor for graduate students, but the Associate Director (AD) can also assist with questions regarding course registration, FLAS area studies coursework, and more. To declare a degree, please meet with the Director. It is imperative that you keep the African Studies Program informed of all changes in career status and biographical information.
All first-year students are required to meet with the DGS before the start of their first semester, typically the week prior to the start of classes.
For information on our degrees, courses, course permissions, graduation checks and more, the DGS can offer you specific and detailed information.
HLS also has a Director of Graduate Administrative Services (Katie LaPadula, klapadul@iu.edu) who can assist with general progress through the degree, including making sure you have completed your graduation forms.
