IU African Studies Program is a member of the ASA Outreach Council, which promotes the teaching of Africa in K-16 classrooms, collaborates on an annual teacher workshop, workshops for higher ed faculty, and produces teacher resources for the proliferation of responsible teaching of Africa-focused area studies in U.S. schools.
Teaching the World is a collection of Title VI National Resource Centers (NRCs), which are higher education areas or international studies centers partially funded by the U.S. Department of Education. National Resource Centers offer resources available locally and nationally. These include virtual classroom visits, training workshops and seminars, multimedia materials, lesson plans, and more. Part of the the IU School of Education's Center for P-16 Research and Collaboration, the Global Literacy Invitation Project introduces in-service teacher participants to quality children’s literature that supports global learning and connections. Teacher participants are introduced to the Global Literacy Invitation teaching strategy and examine ways in which their students can participate in an open-ended investigation that extends the theme of the book into other areas and subjects, including technology, science, math, music, and art.
