Tavy Aherne, Associate Director for the African Studies Program, has been named a finalist for 2024 Outstanding Mentor/Advocate Award. Presented by the Center of Excellence for Women and Technology and IU Women in IT (IUWIT), this distinguished award honors someone who:
- Serves as a diligent and supportive mentorwho provides advice, encouragement, feedback, and coaching,
- Advocates for women and technology and intentionally uses their influence to help others,
- Nurtures the development of technical skills in women, and
- Champions the advancement of women in leadership roles.
Tavy was nominated by ASP graduate students whom she had encouraged to be involved in IUWIT’s program and mentored/taught in African Studies, as well as by ASP director Dr. Beth Samuelson. Tavy will be recognized at the Faculty Staff Mentor Awards Recognition Reception on February 14th.
