Louisa Joy is a graduate of Education Arts (English and Literature) from St Paul’s University, Kenya. She has teaching experience with learners at different language proficiency levels and began her journey in education by volunteering at a start-up school during her second year at university. She is passionate about language, literature, and intercultural exchange. Further, Louisa has a growing interest in the new Kenyan curriculum (CBC) and its impact on learning outcomes.
Teaching is both a passion and a calling for her. Louisa has worked with diverse groups of learners, guiding them to develop their language and literacy skills, and she continues to explore innovative ways of engaging students.
Louisa is excited to share Kiswahili and Kenyan culture at Indiana University, while also learning from the diverse academic and cultural environment on campus. Through the FLTA program, she hopes to strengthen her teaching skills, broaden her global outlook, and contribute to meaningful cross-cultural understanding.
In the long term, she aspires to pursue a Master’s degree in Literature, as well as further studies in Curriculum Development and Child Psychology. Louisa hopes to contribute to shaping education policy and practice in Kenya, with a focus on creating learning experiences that nurture both academic growth and the holistic development of learners.
This year as Louisa will be working with the African Studies program assistant with Kiswahili instruction, and working with the National African Languages Center on innovative online language programs.
