Olúwafẹ́mi David Fámúyìwá is a graduate of Yorùbá Language and Literature from the University of Ibadan, in Ibadan, Nigeria. He also earned his Master’s degree in Yorùbá Literature from the Department of Linguistics at U of I. He has written various educative poems, dramas, and prose works in Yorùbá. He is also the author of the award-winning Yorùbá drama text Atẹyintọ, a story centered on empowering women in society.
Teaching is both a passion and a hobby for Olúwafẹ́mi, which has now become his career. He has taught a diverse range of students, from kindergarten pupils to graduate-level learners. He has effectively taught and managed over 200 students at once in both public and private schools in Nigeria. Additionally, he has prepared over 50 students for post-entrance examinations into higher institutions of learning in Nigeria.
Olúwafẹ́mi is a versatile Yorùbá language tutor who has taught the language online to more than 50 students across various countries, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, Spain, and Nigeria.
He works with the Nkenne Language App as a freelance translator and voice-over artist, helping to design Yorùbá language learning materials for second-language learners. He has translated numerous materials from English into Yorùbá.
His long-term goal is to create linguistic tools that will enable Yorùbá language learners to study independently from anywhere in the world, at their own pace.
As a Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant, he will be working with the National African Languages Resource Center on such interactive tools, as well as with the IU African Studies Program’s Yorùbá language program.
