Study Abroad

Get out of the classroom

Overseas study is an enriching component of university education. Study abroad programs can prepare you for a global career in the U.S., in Africa, and in many other parts of the world. You will gain valuable internship experience, new skills, and cross-cultural exchange opportunities.

You can choose to study in many places on the African continent for a summer, semester, or year. Our study abroad programs are open to students across the IU Bloomington campus. African Studies faculty across the College and the professional schools lead study abroad. Additionally, students can participate in IU and non-IU sponsored programs.

Other Schools on campus also offer short-term study abroad programs. Students interested in programs offered by other universities or study abroad organizations are encouraged to consult with the Office of Overseas Study Study, the African Studies director of undergraduate studies, Tavy Aherne.
