Dr. Beth Samuelson, Associate Professor of International and Comparative Education; Literacy, Culture, and Language Education in the IU School of Education, Curriculum + Instruction joins the IU Africa Studies Program as Director. She has been an active faculty affiliate with the program for many years, lived and worked in Democratic Republic of Congo, and oversaw the IU Books & Beyond Program in Rwanda. Her research and teaching interests include language awareness and the flows of English literacy practices across global boundaries; literacy theory; language learning and cross-cultural experience in non-Western contexts, and African studies.
