International Partners & Exchanges

IU and the African Studies Program have international partnerships with Cairo University (Egypt); University of Ghana at Legon; University of Cape Coast (Ghana); Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana); the University of Pretoria (South Africa); the University of Cape Town (South Africa); the University of Western Cape (South Africa); the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania); the University Cheikh Anta Diop’s School of Education (Senegal); the University of Rwanda; Moi University (Kenya); and, the Institute of African Studies at the University of Bayreuth (Germany). The ASP continues to develop partnerships to meet the needs of students and faculty.

The African Studies Program also has long-term collaborations with other Title VI Africa National Resource Centers (NRCs) focused on nation-wide Outreach initiatives, including teacher-trainings in the U.S. and Africa. ASP also collaborates with, and supports, the consortia work of the Africana Librarians Group, and the African Studies Association’s Outreach Council. ASP maintains active institutional memberships with the Association of African Studies Programs; African Language Materials Archive (ALMA); West African Research Association (WARA); and, the African Studies Association.

In 2019, IU’s African Studies Program became an Associated Partner for the European Interdisciplinary Master African Studies (EIMAS), forming the first Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in African Studies, and is the only U.S. institutional partner of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, coordinated by the University of Bayreuth.
